Since it’s start in 2009, GDC Europe took place next to Gamescom in Germany. Last December, event organizer UBM announced it was cancelling all future GDC Europe events. To fill the void, DevCon was created and hosted nextdoor, to bring together speakers, lecturers and connect industry professionals.
This week saw lots of news from both events. GamesCom saw an exciting flurry of new released dates announced for highly anticipated games (such as Monster Hunter World, Bio Mutant, Anno 1800, and so on).Microsoft had some pretty exciting announcements; they unveiled the limited edition Project Scorpio Xbox One X and opened pre-orders.
From DevCon; Unity was present showing it’s made with unity games, and UE4’s Tom Sweeney from Epic games gave a keynote presentation. The creative team behind Project CARS 2; Andy Tudor, Nicolas Hamilton, and Peter Smits spoke about the creation of Project Cars 2 with the fusion of motor sports drivers and the fan community. Brendan Greene spoke about his rise from modder to creative director of Playerunknown’s Battleground. And Richard Allen Garriotte de Cayeux spoke about his lengthy career, from his first published game in 1979 ‘Origin’ to ‘Ultima’. A full list of these are available on the GamesComwebsite, however news on what these talks included is still mum.
